Pentadyne Surpasses 100-Unit Backlog for New Second Generation Clean Energy Storage Product
Chatsworth , Calif. - October 19, 2006 - Pentadyne Power Corporation ( www.pentadyne.com ), the world's leading commercial manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology, announced today that orders for its new second-generation VSS+ DC flywheel-based clean energy storage systems have surpassed more than 100 units.
Three months ago, Pentadyne announced that its first VSS+ DC production unit was ready to ship. This new model delivers more than 50% greater power than the company's original VSS DC model that it has sold for the last 3 years. Even with this large improvement in performance, the new VSS+ DC model is sold at the same price and has the same compact dimensions and low weight as the original product.
"This 100-unit milestone is a new height in sales for Pentadyne, and a clear confirmation that our new product is striking a strong chord in the marketplace," said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough . "At this pace, with this well-valued product and with our strong OEM relationships with Emerson Network Power/Liebert and with Socomec Sicon, we are positioning ourselves to become the leader in delivering clean energy storage flywheels . "
Pentadyne's flywheel power system improves UPS reliability by completely replacing or greatly extending the life of lead-acid batteries commonly used in most UPS configurations . In comparison to batteries, the VSS+ DC improves UPS reliability while eliminating costly ventilation and cooling requirements as well as reducing lifecycle cost and maintenance/replacement needs. With a much smaller footprint than an equivalently sized battery system, the VSS+ DC saves valuable floor space in the data center leading to higher computing density.
"Data centers are moving to higher density 'blade servers' to both maximize computing power and minimize computing space," said Frank DeLattre, Pentadyne's Senior Vice President of Sales & Service. "However, higher capacity computing requires higher capacity UPS systems and higher capacity energy storage. So while the computing footprint is shrinking, the conventional energy storage footprint is getting much larger. The Pentadyne VSS+ DC is the perfect solution for this application. It is the blade-equivalent of energy storage: delivering more power in less space, while also eliminating all the ventilation, cooling, maintenance, replacement and safety issues that plague battery installations."
DeLattre presented on the topic of flywheels and blade servers earlier this week at the Fall 2006 Data Center Users Group conference in Columbus , Ohio . In addition, he is scheduled to present this morning at the national Emerson Network Power AdaptiveXchange trade show, also in Columbus . The Pentadyne-manufactured flywheel system - sold by Emerson Network Power as the Liebert FS - is on display at the show. Event attendees can also see a live demonstration of another Liebert FS unit at Emerson Network Power's nearby Delaware plant.
The higher output VSS+ DC permits one-to-one integration with UPS systems rated at 225 kVA or less. Multiple units are easily paralleled without any communications gear to work with higher-capacity UPS systems and still offer exceptional space and energy conservation savings over other energy storage products.
