Pentadyne's Flywheel Energy Storage Solution Selected as Finalist

Pentadyne’s Flywheel Energy Storage Solution Selected as Finalist in Plant Engineering’s 2003 Product of the Year Award

Chatsworth, Calif. – October 14, 2003 – The new Pentadyne Voltage Support Solution™ flywheel power system has been nominated as a finalist for Plant Engineering magazine’s “16th Annual Product of the Year Award” for 2003. This award is recognized as a premier honor for new products in the plant engineering market. Pentadyne’s VSS 120, introduced to the marketplace in April 2003, has been selected for this recognition by the editors of Plant Engineering magazine.

“We are honored that our new flywheel is being recognized by this top industry publication for its ability to improve power quality and reliability as well as to provide an environmentally friendly solution in plant operations,” stated Paul Craig, CEO of Pentadyne Power Corporation. “In order to be selected as a finalist for Plant Engineering’s Product of the Year Award, the product must be innovative and truly useful. The Pentadyne Voltage Support Solution fits that criteria.”

Pentadyne’s flywheel system provides a stable, reliable, low maintenance, extended-life DC voltage source to either replace or supplement batteries in UPS systems. The VSS 120 can completely eliminate the need for UPS batteries in many applications by providing sufficient ride-through for an orderly system shutdown or until a standby engine-generator can come on-line. To help protect batteries, the Model VSS 120 minimizes battery discharge “whiplash” effects commonly experienced with each use, thus improving battery reliability and preserving battery capacity for occasions that demand a longer back-up time. The Model VSS 120 delivers 2,400 kilowatt-seconds of energy, sufficient to support loads ranging from 120kW for 20 seconds to 10kVA for about 5 minutes.
