Pentadyne Closes Financing Totaling $22M

Chatsworth, Calif. – Sept. 22, 2008 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world leader in flywheel energy storage systems, announced that it yesterday successfully closed a financing round totaling $22 million including the conversion of existing convertible ventures.

The new capital will be used to fuel expansion of the company into new markets, with enhanced energy storage systems and the sales and production of new and existing products.

The announcement was made by Toshiba UPS Business Unit Manager Greg Mack during the company’s annual international sales meeting at Toshiba’s sprawling Houston facility where UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems, motors, drives and other equipment are manufactured.

Pentadyne was ranked #162 overall among the 500 companies that made the list. Among the top 100 energy companies, Pentadyne was ranked #7. Among businesses in the Greater Los Angeles area, Pentadyne was ranked #12.

Inc. magazine reports that Pentadyne “Designs and manufactures environmentally responsible energy storage products. Chatsworth, Calif. – July 30, 2008 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of flywheel clean energy storage systems, has eclipsed Active Power (NASDAQ: ACPW) as the world’s number one producer of flywheel energy storage systems.

For the first half of 2008, Pentadyne has shipped 34% more flywheel systems than the former market leader, Active Power.

Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough said, “Pentadyne’s growth continues to outpace that of our competitors, thanks to an extremely reliable product that is sold through the top channel partners in the industry. At a challenging time for capital expenditure sales, we are still growing at a rate of over 40%. We set a goal to become #1 in world flywheel sales in 2008, and we are very pleased to have achieved that goal.”

Pentadyne systems also offer greater value in terms of energy efficiency – 90% less standby energy use than that of the Active Power CleanSource flywheel – and fewer, shorter and far less costly maintenance needs because the service-intensive vacuum pump and mechanical bearings have been engineered out of the product.

Buildings bestowed the same award last year on the Pentadyne flywheel, an affordable and sustainable alternative to the dozens of environmentally hostile lead-acid batteries commonly used with larger-scale uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.

“This money-saving approach rids facilities of the health and safety hazards of lead-acid battery banks,” the magazine states.

Buildings is a 100-year old publication read by more than 72,000 commercial building owners and professional facilities managers. Its readers are responsible for nearly 4.5 million commercial and institutional buildings nationwide.

Throughout the year, Buildings’ editorial board maintains a database of innovative and efficient products to help its readers in their responsibilities for building development, construction, modernization, management and operations. “We have been working with Socomec under an MOU for two years now. They have developed strong traction for our product in Europe, with nearly 100 units under their belt to date,” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough. “Socomec has done an excellent job in laying the groundwork and growing the market for our product. Pentadyne Ships 500th Flywheel; Fleet Amasses 2M Hours

Chatsworth, Calif. – April 30, 2008 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world's leading manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology, announced today that it has shipped its 500th flywheel energy storage system.

In addition, the company announced that the installed fleet of Pentadyne flywheel energy storage systems – primarily used with large-scale uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems instead of lead-acid batteries – has amassed a total of two million hours of operation. The company’s first commercial installation, at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cincinnati, has amassed more than 35,000 hours of operation since commissioning in March 2004.

Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough said, “These two significant milestones occurring within a few days of each other underscores the rapid and growing acceptance of our product in the marketplace. UPS users are looking for the most energy efficient reliable alternative to lead-acid batteries, and they are clearly finding it in our product. Considering that we’ve shipped nearly 90% of those 500 units in the last 24 months, the growth rate is astounding.”

Fibernet, a colocation center based in Orem, Utah, took delivery this week of Pentadyne’s 500th flywheel system, which they purchased through the world’s leading large-scale UPS manufacturer, Emerson Network Power/Liebert.

“The 500th Pentadyne-made flywheel is the second one purchased by Fibernet, and will be used with a 150-kVA Liebert UPS,” said Pentadyne Vice-President of Sales & Service Johnny Gonzales. “Their first Pentadyne-made Liebert FS flywheel, which they purchased 12 months ago, has been operating flawlessly with a 225-kVA Liebert UPS at Fibernet’s state-of-the-art Class A ‘smart building.’"

According to Fibernet CFO J. Lee Livingston, “We were skeptical about flywheels. But the ability to rid ourselves of the hazards, maintenance and poor reliability of lead-acid batteries, coupled with the reliability and lower operating costs of the flywheel were convincing. We now have a year’s worth of battery-free and fault-free operation under our belt. So when our growth demanded expansion of our power protection capabilities, it was an easy decision to address that with another flywheel-based UPS.”

Since 2003, Campion has been the CFO of Silicon Valley based PolyFuel Inc., a world leader in the development of engineered membranes for fuel cells. Under his direction, PolyFuel was one of the first U.S. companies to consider and successfully execute an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market in 2005. Since that time, more than 50 U.S. companies have followed suit.

“I am thrilled to be joining Pentadyne as its new CFO,” Campion said. “Pentadyne, with its experienced management team and industry leading technology, is well positioned to assume a dominant role in the emerging clean energy storage space, and I look forward to helping the company realize its full potential.”
