Technology Center Orders 24 Pentadyne Flywheels

Chatsworth, Calif. – Nov. 29, 2007 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology, announced today that it has received an order for 24 Pentadyne-made flywheels to be deployed at a major technology research and development center in Omaha, Nebraska.

The two dozen Liebert FS systems from Emerson Network Power, which can provide more than 4.5 megawatts of backup power, will be paralleled with six, 750-kVA Liebert 610 UPS systems. Emerson Network Power is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of 3-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. It markets the Pentadyne flywheel as the Liebert FS.

“With 24 Liebert FS units, this will be the one site that has the most Pentadyne-made flywheels operating together,” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough.

Flywheel energy storage systems are used as a supplement to increase the reliability of conventional UPS lead-acid battery banks, or to entirely eliminate them and their associated recurring costs, frequent maintenance issues, poor reliability and environmental impact.

“This was yet another win where the superior product offerings of Pentadyne and Liebert beat out those of our primary competitor in the flywheel-UPS marketplace,” said Johnny Gonzales, Pentadyne’s Vice President of Sales & Service. “The customer recognized the value of our product’s vastly lower maintenance needs as well as the energy savings of our flywheel system on a double-conversion UPS versus the flywheel system of our primary competitor. In this case, that energy efficiency difference amounts to nearly 400 megawatt-hours per year. That equates to tens of thousands of dollars in annual utility bill savings and the mitigation of more than half a million pounds of carbon dioxide every year, year after year.”

European International Airport Orders Socomec Flywheel for UPS Energy Storage

Chatsworth, Calif. – Oct 8, 2007 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world's leading commercial manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology, announced today that their European OEM distributor – UPS manufacturer Socomec – had received an order for a Socomec VSS+DC flywheel system to be deployed at a major international European airport.

Pentadyne is the original equipment manufacturer of the Socomec VSS+DC clean energy storage system. Socomec markets the VSS+DC internationally for use with their DELPHYS three-phase uninterruptible power supply systems rated from 60 to 800 kVA.

“Just a few weeks ago, we announced the commissioning of another Pentadyne-made flywheel at the San Jose International Airport, ” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough. “So we are pleased to learn that the officials at this much larger airport also recognize the great reliability and cost-cutting enhancements of our clean energy storage systems.”

One million hours is equivalent to more than 100 years of non-stop operation.

Pentadyne Names New VPs of Sales, Marketing

Chatsworth, Calif. – Sept 18, 2007 – Pentadyne Power Corporation ( www.pentadyne.com ), the world's leading commercial manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology, announced today that it had named Johnny Gonzales and Keith Field to new vice-presidential positions.

Gonzales was named Vice-President of Sales & Service, Field was appointed Vice-President of Marketing. Both Gonzales and Field were promoted from their current positions at Pentadyne as Directors of Sales and of Marketing, respectively.

“Both Johnny and Keith have performed their respective duties for Pentadyne exceptionally well,” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough. Noting that both new positions are a product of Pentadyne's personnel development efforts, McGough added, “These two individuals have contributed significantly to our growth this year, which we expect will more than double the size of the business. ”

Gonzales is a 4-year veteran of Pentadyne and “a key person responsible for bookings growth at the company,” McGough said. Gonzales will remain directly responsible for existing accounts until those responsibilities are reassigned “as part of our aggressive buildup of the sales force for our next phase of growth,” he said. Gonzales has 30 years of experience within the power quality industry, working for both static UPS manufacturers and rotary/flywheel UPS manufacturers, including Hitec and SatCon. Among those companies, he has held positions in applications engineering, senior project management and sales management.

Field was hired as Director of Marketing at Pentadyne in June of 2006. Field was formerly in a similar capacity at microturbine generator manufacturer Capstone Turbine. Prior to directing marketing and communications at Capstone, Field managed product marketing and communications at Clifford Electronics, now a division of consumer electronics manufacturer Directed Electronics.

Loudwater is the Investment Adviser to Loudwater Trust Limited, a closed-ended investment company incorporated in Guernsey and listed on the London Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

Pentadyne Flywheel Ensures Continuous Power Quality at San Jose International Airport

Chatsworth, Calif. – Aug 23, 2007 – Pentadyne Power Corporation ( www.pentadyne.com ) – the world's leading commercial manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology – announced that its system is in use with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system at California 's Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport .

Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport , airport code SJC, serves the Silicon Valley and Greater San Francisco Bay Area. The airport moves about 30,000 passengers per day, nearly 11 million per year.

UPS systems that protect critical equipment from power interruptions commonly use dozens of hazardous lead-acid batteries. These store the energy needed to feed protected loads in the event of utility power fluctuations or complete outages. Lead-acid batteries, however, are commonly acknowledged as the weakest link in any continuous power quality system.

Pentadyne systems are far more reliable than the lead-acid batteries commonly used with UPSs. In most installations, Pentadyne systems are deployed instead of problematic UPS battery banks to ride-through brief power disturbances or a complete outage. In the latter case, the Pentadyne system “holds up” the DC bus of the UPS until a backup generator starts and can accept a gradual hand-off of the UPS-protected loads.

At San José International Airport , however, the Pentadyne system is operating in parallel with a redundant set of UPS batteries. In this configuration, the Pentadyne system is the first line of defense against all power issues, isolating the batteries from any such events. The only time the batteries would ever be used is in the unlikely event of a problem with the Pentadyne system or the backup generator.

“ Battery banks are notoriously problematic in terms of reliability, temperature control and maintenance needs,” said Frank DeLattre , Pentadyne's Senior Vice President of Sales & Service. “The Pentadyne system at San José International essentially does all the work that a battery bank is supposed to do, but does so with far greater reliability, far lower operating cost, much higher uptime availability and near-zero maintenance needs. ”

Those were the primary re asons th at the San José International Airport chose to use the Pentadyne flywheel solution over other alternatives.

The Pentadyne system is operating as the sole source of energy storage for the transmission site's uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system. UPS systems commonly use dozens of hazardous lead-acid batteries to store the energy needed to feed protected loads in the event of utility power fluctuations or complete outages. Lead-acid batteries, however, are commonly acknowledged as the weakest link in any continuous power quality system.

"Battery banks are notoriously problematic in terms of reliability, temperature control and maintenance needs," said Frank DeLattre, Pentadyne's Senior Vice President of Sales & Service. "This is particularly an issue at remote broadcast sites. Regulating battery temperature is a problem and traveling to remote locations every month to check, maintain or replace batteries is an expensive waste of time and resources."

Those were the primary re asons th at Dirk Freeman, President of Blair Media Inc. -- which develops and manages digital broadcast properties - chose a Pentadyne flywheel and a 225-kVA Toshiba G8000 UPS system to ensure con tinuous operation of the DCX Paragon MSDC-IOT at KDEN's multi-million-dollar digital transmission site.

"Over the years, we've been made painfully aware of the short-comings of UPS batteries. That's why we chose to eliminate those problems and their costs with this battery-free solution that began operating two weeks ago," Freeman said. "There are other flywheels and other UPSs, but the Pentadyne and Toshiba systems offer the best performance and they back them up with warranties that are years longer than any other on the market."

The Houston-based UPS division of Toshiba International Corporation sells the Pentadyne flywheel with their G8000 UPS line to broadcasters as well as to industrial businesses and to medical equipment installations requiring reliable, uninterrupted, high-quality power.

"The Toshiba G8000 UPS and Pentadyne flywheel cost a bit more than lowest-priced conventional options," said Greg Mack, Business Unit Manager for Toshiba's line of UPS systems. "But the rock-solid performance of these two products may provide KDEN return on investment in the next couple years. And they will continue to save KDEN money while providing higher reliability service for many years thereafter."

Pentadyne Books Third Order from Leading Michigan Hospital

Chatsworth , Calif. - July 9, 2007 - Pentadyne Power Corporation - the world's leading commercial manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology - announced today at a national healthcare engineering trade show that Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, has ordered an additional six Pentadyne-made flywheels following two previous orders totaling seven flywheels.

The order announcement was made by Pentadyne's Senior Vice President of Sales & Service, Frank DeLattre, during the opening day today of the national American Society for Healthcare Engineering trade show being held at the New Orleans Convention Center in Louisiana.

Last year, Sparrow Hospital, which has more than 500 beds, ordered six Pentadyne-made flywheel systems to use with a 1000-kVA UPS protecting the hospital's six labs for state-of-the-art cardiac and neurological catheterization procedures.

"The flywheels provide highly reliable energy storage to ensure continuous quality power delivery to the cath labs in the event of a brief power disturbance or a full power outage. In the latter case, the flywheels deliver uninterrupted energy until the hospital's four 2-megawatt generators can come online and gradually take over the supply of power to all hospital loads," DeLattre said.

"Patient-first, that's what we are all about here," said Jon Harris, who heads up electrical services at Sparrow Hospital . "With cardiac and neurological catheterization, there's no room for a power glitch. That's certainly what everyone would want if they were on that table, and that's what we deliver.

"When we had the opportunity to design a new hospital-wide power system, we went above and beyond what we are required to do by law," Harris added. "Batteries are the biggest point of failure in any UPS system. We insisted on having the best backup equipment available, and that's why we chose Pentadyne-made flywheels as a part of that."

In May of 2007, the hospital ordered one additional unit to mate with a 130-kVA UPS system protecting a number of computer servers at the hospital. The new six-unit order will be used with three 300-kVA UPSs that will protect a large-scale data center in the hospital's west wing.

This latest follow-on order from Beaver Aerospace is part of a procurement contract with Pentadyne to be the exclusive supplier of more than 500 clean energy storage systems that will be deployed in homeland security military defense applications during the next few years. This new order amounts to nearly double that of all previous Beaver Aerospace orders for Pentadyne flywheel systems.

The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system division of Toshiba International Corporation - headquartered in Houston, Texas - is offering the Pentadyne VSS + DC energy storage system with Toshiba's G8000 series of UPSs as a battery-free reliable power solution primarily for in-patient treatment/diagnostic equipment and for television broadcast facilities in North, Central and South America.

Newark most recently managed the turnaround of U.S. operations at Wolverine Advanced Materials, a global supplier of vibration damping and sealing materials for automotive, consumer electronics and industrial markets. Prior to Wolverine, Newark instituted l ean manufacturing systems to produce high-volume (over 1600 per day) automotive transmissions in a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and ZF Friedrichshafen, AG. He also served as Chief Product Engineer and Shop Operations Director at Cummins Engine Company where he launched new engine programs as well as developed new manufacturing processes and systems to meet customer requirements, producing over 200 engines per day in high-volume, lean manufacturing facilities.

"Dick has more than 27 years of operations experience in Six Sigma quality and lean manufacturing processes, new product launches, product development, organizational development and continuous improvement ," said Pentadyne CEO Mark McGough . EYP Mission Critical Facilities ( www.eypmcf.com ) is a global consulting engineering firm focused on the programming, design, commissioning, testing and operations of critical facilities: data centers, command and control centers, trading floors, broadcast facilities, corporate offices and other technology-intensive environments.

"Secondly, users complain about the frequent replacement costs and increasingly difficult disposal requirements associated with dumping the massive amounts of lead and acid contained in batteries.

"The environmental benefit is significant: over the course of its 20-year design life, one of our flywheels will save the en vironment from more than 15,000 pounds of lead disposal. "The energy efficiency and near zero hardware maintenance requirements of the Pentadyne clean energy system can save an institution four to eight times its cost over the life of the system.

"Last year, we introduced a completely enhanced product that delivers 50% more power capacity with no increase in footprint, weight or price to the end user. Six months after that introduction, we had booked more than $8 million in new orders. With reduced cost of goods, this new product is gross margin positive. "In a separate development last year, we worked with Sun Microsystems, HP, IBM and other industry giants in a test project with the US Department of Energy's Berkeley Lab that proved powering data centers with DC current, as opposed to today's DC/AC/DC architecture, can cut energy waste and power bills at data centers around the world by 20% or more," McGough said.
